In een boekwinkel in Nepenthe aan de prachtige kust van Californië zag ik voor het eerst een boek liggen van Andy Goldsworthy. Een
kunstenaar, die ik tot op dat moment niet kende of waar ik ooit wat van gezien had. Om op deze plek in de natuur juist tegen deze
kunstenaar aan te lopen, maakte me zo blij, dat ik haast niet kon wachten tot ik meer van zijn werk kon zien. Voor iemand die zelf
altijd steentjes zoekt op het strand en in ieder blaadje, takje, veertje, schelpje iets ziet wat zo mooi is, dat je het gewoon niet kan laten
liggen, is zijn werk heel bijzonder. Het is wat je zelf zou willen doen, maar niet doet. Wat heerlijk dat er mensen zijn, die het wèl doen
en wat fijn dat je daar dan naar mag kijken. In de documentaire 'River and Tides' kun je Andy Goldsworthy aan het werk zien.
I first stumbled upon a book about the art of Andy Goldsworthy in a bookshop in Nepenthe, Big sur, while driving along the beautiful
coastline, on a trip from San Diego, California to Vancouver, British Columbia. I had never heard of this artist from West Yorkshire,
who currently lives in Scotland. As an art student I learned about Land art (with 'Spiral Jetty' by Robert Smithson as its icon) and have
always been a huge fan of Christo Javacheff. For someone like me, who collects stones, feathers, twigs and leaves,.......,just because
I find it all so beautiful, encountering his work made and makes my heart sing. I can really recommend watching the documentary
River and Tides: Andy Goldsworthy - Working with time.
